October In US Is National Stamp Collecting Month

To honor this event the USPS is issueing a sheet of 10 stamps October 1st from the Nature of America series titled Kelp Forest.

I am hoping that each of you does your part to invite someone new into our hobby this month by encouraging, mentoring, and sharing.

I am in the process of attempting to contact local schools to suggest sending out a notice to students/parents about my stamp clubs upcoming Stamp Show and attending a meeting. Also, I will be sending out a notice to all the local BSA council Troops about me being a certified stamp collecting merit badge counselor.

Also, be sure to post on other social networking sites, forums, chatrooms, websites promoting our SCF website & facebook page.

If you are wanting to start a youth club, the APS's AlStar Stamp Club is a great way to do this it only cost $15.00 annually for the person whom starts the club and it is FREEfor the minors under the age of 18. They send out quarterly newsletters, donated supplies ie. stamps, covers, postcards, catalogs, hinges, mounts; and info on promoting the club including letters to school administration and parent sign up sheets. The children also get a philatelic gift on their birthday and a membership card.
