This question is frequently asked...what is the collection worth ? can I answer a question with a question ? Are you the one who spent hundreds of hours and hundreds possibly thousands of dollars putting the collection together ? If not, what do you care what its worth ? Its certainly not worth as much to you as to the person who put it together !!
I think that a stamp collection is truly a personal pastime in that nobody will appreciate the amount of tender, loving, care (TLC) that you have lavished on your collection as much as you do. I will enjoy it up until the day I die. Fortunately, I have a wife and son who are avid stamp collectors also. I think if I didn't have them, I would try to find someone locally who loves collecting at least as much as I do and then maybe leave my collection to that person. How can you place a value on the TLC that you have placed on your collection? You could never recoup the monetary value so all that is really important is the heart and soul expended on your collection. Actually, what I would receive monetarily would probably be insulting. I would want to find someone, preferably a young someone, who displays the traits about collecting that I think I display. If they come close to my expectations, then I might leave it for them. Otherwise, I might try to find someone through the stampcommunity to receive my collection as a gift.
I agree with all the above, no money can match the quality time spent on ones collection. I still enjoy going through my albums and admiring the qualtiy of the stamps, early issues are best.
