I purchased some books from a friend in the United States. He put them in an Express Mail box and mailed them to me.

He used a $17.50 Express Mail stamp. It was nicely cancelled.

The #$@*+&! at Canada Post put their "Signature Required" sticker over half of the stamp. I cannot get it off. It will not come off.

Hi David and All

I too have had this happen with very nice high valued US stamps on the cover to me. I sometimes wonder if it is spite work on the part of some postal employees, or are they under a ruling here?? I really don't know.

There have been a couple of cases when this sticker you mentioned has come off the stamps ok. I have noticed in those occasions that if you can take the time for the air to get underneath it, it will eventually start to come off ok w/o damage to the affected stamp. Not always unfortunately

I too have had my battles with Canada Post.

The marker Monkey got this nice Souvenir Sheet on the back of a registered cover from Bahrain (It was actually done at the local private post office that distributes the mail when no one is home to sign for it)

If it happened at my local post office, I'd go there in person and complain

David,

WITH MUCH HESITATION IN SUGGESTING THE FOLLOWING, ... I have used a solvent (yes, flammable) made by the automotive finishes company Ditzler. It is called Wax and Grease Remover. I used often on stamps to remove adhesives and a few rare times I successfully wiped off marker monkey cancels. I even used it to wipe off photographer imprints on photos without smearing the colors on the photo, but it did remove a clear coating on the surface of the photos. Some stamp inks did smear with the product so I now test it first on a damaged copy. ( It is also great for getting chewing gum off of clothes and carpets.) Unfortunately, Ditzler's Wax and Grease Remover does not come in small containers. I'm not even sure if it is still produced. My dwindling supply is from a 25 year old can.

I am not responsible for improper use that may burn down your house, or worse yet, burn up your stamp collection.

I understand David, I am basically self taught in just about anything to do with stamps and have entered in where wise men fear to tread.
