Hi Tony......
Welcome to the club........looks more like LO or a backwards OL......my guess is that it's probably an Official of some sort.

Hi Tony
The "CL" perfin you sent the url for was used by the firm known as "Credit Lyonaise". It is an international banking system that had branch offices throughout Europe and parts of northern Africa. I believe the home office was situated in France.
Hope this information helps you out
Cheers

My goodness, I feel pretty dense. And I even used to have an account at the old Crédit Lyonnais in Montréal. Serves me right for growing old! Thanks guys. |

If you look carefully at the size of the holes on the perfs you will see that it is an O not a C. |

After checking other listings I believe I was wrong.....
The single missing perfin hole just seemed a very small gap for it to be a C......I concede that it is CL.

OK, so here's my question. I don't suppose there's a rule that says you have to, but aren't perfins normally applied to read from the front of the stamp? |

Well, I have quite a few that read right-side-up, as you say, and then I also have quite another few that read correctly only from the back. It's a lot easier to figure out when there are Bs and Ps and what have you, but some letters like Ms and Hs are no help at all. |

By the way, to SCF Tony. I'm sure you'll find this a great place to spend some of your net time. The members here are also a great resource and the discussions are almost always on thread. I would also mention that you can direct upload image files to the forum (providing its a jpeg and less than 90k) by using the camera image below the text input frame. Makes it much easier for both you and the reader than accessing an external website. -Larry |

Thanks very much, Larry. I'm used to newsgroups where images are not allowed. I guess that's the reason I missed that part of it in the first place. I read about it afterwards and uploaded a small image to use as an avatar but nothing came of it. Guess I have to read some more; I must have missed a step or two. Thanks again. |

Could be Tony This is a great forum, and we look forward to your specialties, when you settle in (warning. Its habit forming). Stampdog recently posted a stamp on Rani Lakshmibai of Jhansi and I thought of you, thinking you may have a story on her. |
