One thing cool about stamp collecting is you can mix old technology with new. Here I am using a scanner with a nice engraved stamp of 1962. Look at all the details on the stamp. Once think we can learn from the stamp is that in 1962 men wore one-piece tights to college, while women wore dresses. I did not know that. For the topicalist, there are many items - tools, violin, and hey a type writer, I even remember those! Another college guy in tights is standing on the paint brush in the lower right. Just above that is the year the stamp was printed, 1962. You have to love those engraved stamps...

Here is a better close-up of the date: ...and the upper left of the stamp. Even in the shield's middle row, there appears to be a chicken and a giraffe! |

The level of detail in engraved stamps is phenomenal, and is a testament to the skill of the engraver |

Fun with Scanners. I've looked right past that stamp without ever paying attention to it. Thanks, Bee, for the entertainment. Is it too soon to ask for more?

On the coat of arms, perhaps? You have to squint a little bit...sort of like looking at cloud formations.
What do you think? |

Karl Seizinger used to sign his stamps with an "S" When the Germans took over they issued the same stamp with the new country text and apparently the S was missing. Original item discussed on a page from the late Danish philatelist Mette Heindorff, but I think this page is no longer available. |

Nice one Rod2222, I see the S and great detail - cars, buses, people, clock tower, monuments - nice stamp. |

Quote: The 4th pic is modern use of an old engraved plate. That's amazing - the stamp looks so sharp. Except for the white paper, it could pass as the original. |
