I am working on the layout of my album pages but I am having a hard time tracking down the size of each stamp. Is there a site that lists the size of various revenue stamps in mm. I want to make sure that I make my boxes large enough to cover the stamp and mount. I do not have any revenues at the moment to measure. I want to finish my pages before I start getting some. Thanks for all of your help.

The problem you will find is that ALL catalogs list the size of the design, not the stamp. Give me a few days and I'll make a list of the main types for you. |

If you are creating an album of US revenue stamps then you should get a copy of the Boston Revenue Book aka "An Historical Reference List of the Revenue Stamps of the United States including the Private Die Proprietary Stamps." It lists the design size of each stamp. Then just add some space for the borders and perfs. Give them some extra room; either for plastic mounts to frame the stamps or just because the perforating equipment back then wasn't very repeatable. Don't want to shell out $75-$100 for the original or $35-$50 for the reprint? Then simply go to www.google.com's book category and enter the first 4 words of the title in quotes and run the search. The first link will enable you to download a complete pdf version of the book for free. The copywrite on this classic 1899 book has run out. |

Hi Rod222. Just go to www.google.com. At the top of the page there is a downward pointing triangle to the right of "more". Hit this with the left mouse and select the first entry in the list - books. When the new page comes up, type the search words into the box to the right of "Google Books" and click the search button. The advanced search allows you to filter on "full view only" if you want to check out other topics like postage, stamps, mail, etc. There's plenty of great books for free on their site. When the book opens, you can download the free version by hitting the down arrow and PDF link on the far right just above the page images. The file will download to your hard drive in the document settings / (your name) /My Documents / Downloads folder. Have fun! |

Yes, you must have the computer from Krypton :) your link still brings up the limited view edition.
That would have been a nice pdf to have.

Thanks very much SV. only if you think we are not breaking any rules. This gets curioser and curioser. I received the pdf in my inbox of a email address I no longer use. That was just 13 Mb so whoever sent that Thanks If your copy is 113Mb then there is a good chance my server would not accept that size. Comment if you see fit, and thanks for the original idea 1847CT, I found some good reading, I appreciate your semaphore. |
