Can you decipher the words printed above the numerals. "J G Adams" maybe? It could be a state issued tax stamp. |

It is a Federal Tobacco Tax Paid Stamp. Commonly called a "Tobacco Strip" this type was used from 1932-1955. Their is not enough there to tell what series (date). |

rev, I was formulating my post when you posted yours with the correct and logical information. I knew you would know the answer. I had also stepped away to put my son to bed and read him a story. |

Lucky, Drop me an email with your address and I'll send you a complete copy of one if you would like. Just don't expect it to soon. I am dealing with some issues at home that need to take priority. |

Going through some old posts I came upon this item. As I have a number of old tobacco and cigar revenues I think this is a complete scan of the one being referred to (not sure if it's the right series, though): Is anyone aware of a catalog or list of these cigar revenues? I have quite a few and they are difficult to categorize without some sort of a reference guide. Thanks. |

Yes, that is the type that is on the Tin. For a fairly complete listing you need to get a Springer catalog. I have about 200 of these. The one in your picture is a Series 109(1939), Imperforate. That would make it Springer #TE571b.
Look for the following.
Springer's Handbook of North American Cinderella Stamps Including Taxpaid Revenues by Sherwood Springer, 10th Edition (1985) The 10th Edition is the one with the light green cover. It should run anywhere form $20-$40. I If you only have a few of them let me know Series, Value(Ounces), and Roulette or Imperf. and I can look them up for You. |

Thanks for the info. You've provided a wealth of information. I don't think I have enough stamps to warrant searching for that particular catalog, but it is good to know that it exists. However, I thought you might enjoy looking at some of these other cigar revenues: |

The white Customs Cigar Stamp goes for $5-$10. The others I need the series # for. When you hit 50 posts I would be interested in the Orange NRA Stamp. It's one of the few in the series I don't have. |
