I wanted to get the pulse of the community.
I've noticed a lot of sorted scott's albums by Country/year for sale out there.
meaning people taking Scott's VOL's I, II, III, IV .... and put the countries in chronological order not stopping at 1940, and 1945 ect..
I was curious how many active members sort by year, vs keeping the original Volume by #. My Volumes are still original and I think I would do more harm then good at my current knowledge level trying to sort them.

Edwin, I looked for a catagory to cast my vote..heres what I have ,,,my first Internationals (up to 1959) I have sorted by country..but when I expanded (1960 to 1969) I left the albums intact..(by year instead of country) if that makes sense...you do ask some reasonable questions..hope you stay and become a regular ! |

When I started collecting stamps and I was introduced to stamp collecting by my mother and grandmother, Scott albums seemed to be the thing for my mother and I. My grandmother had a 3 or 4 volume set of I think, Citation? Back when gas was being rationed and cars still had fins, Scott albums had a good majority of the stamps that were on the market in the book, with the pictures for many of the stamps for the countries, and if it was a set, all the pics for the set was usually listed.
I recently purchased the new Scott Statesman album, but I was really disappointed in both of the volumes(it's now a two volume set). I knew that I was really behind in the stamps that had come out since I last collected stamps and I understand that there would not be room for all the pics that was usually in the old album, but what I discovered was that I was lucky to find even the basic of the older stamps per country. Many of the stamps that were sets I now got maybe 1-3 of the stamps as pics and they weren't in numerical order of stamp valuation. I was also getting large jumps in years from page to page and some years not even being represented yet alone any blank spaces to allow for them.
I'm either going to be making up my own album and pages as I go or go for stock books per country. For now, I'm kind of at a stand still for placing stamps in the album I have and the only thing I'm left to do is go through World Wide lots I have purchased and storing them away in glassine envelopes.
Maybe around the holidays I will look around for another album that has more to be desired then the Scott album that I have.

No one or two volumes of a world-wide album can hope to have enough room to show more than a small fraction of the world's stamps. As a kid many years, the holy grail was the two volume Harris, I think, but alas, it was beyond my small allowance.
Now that I can afford more, time has passed by any hope of a two volume comprehensive album. Such is life. |

I am guessing what Rohumpy was referring to was that it is not possible to have a comprehensive worldwide album in two volumes anymore. Unless the binders are 10 feet wide each! Guess we'll have to wait for Rohumpy to let us know for sure! k |

Wow, I really thought more people used Scotts Internationals, I see I'm one of only 3 that use the Scotts in the original format. I hope 2 years from now when I actually know what I'm doing I dont start kicking myself in the butt for going down this scotts road.
however its a family tradition and half of the hobby is the nostalgia and memories of my time with my grandfather & dad working in these albums, I feel if I take away the Scotts feel, I may take away the being that embodies the hobby for me. |
