Just got these... good price, I'm not complaining..
could use some help identifying hyphen hole perf 7 or roulette 5 1/2

my conclusion below picture..

from left to right top to bottom
R163 1c blue - hyphen hole 7 - used
r162 1/2 dark gray - hh7 -used
r161 1/2 orange - hh7 mint
r164 2 carmine - hh7 used
r165 3 dark blue hh7 used
r166 4 pale rose - hh7 used
r167 5 lilac hh7 mint
r168 10 dark brown hh7 used
r169 25 purple brown - hh7 used
r170 - 40 blue -used hh7
r171 - 50 slate - hh7 used
r172 - 80 bister hh7 used

are all of these hyphen hole or are some roulette?
I can't really tell as I don't have an example..

the 1/2 orange looks like a hh to me, but scott lists no price for a hh7... either it is a roulette or I have something unique.. I think it must be roulette.

after further review.. I think they are all roulette...
am I right?

I've always thought that to be an attractive
design, to see so many and of different values is great
Thanks for posting them.

it's the entire series..
i am actually waiting for some more.. same ones.. different conditions..
at roughly .10 each it is a good deal to add them to my collection..

if you don't have these I'd be happy to send the duplicates to you.

SV
HH actually punches out a piece of the paper.
Roulette just makes a slit.

This is most easily seen on pairs. I just got home from a 16 hour work day. To tired to give a good look, I will do so tomorrow and let you know what you have. If you need any of the Proprietary of this type let me know.

Rod, I have your envelope on my desk I'll toss in a few for you as well. It should go out this weekend.

Whaaat!?
this is too early for Christmas

SV don't worry about a full set, just what ever is duplicated,
and I'm happy to wait whilst you sort out the
perf varieties, no hurry.

There are so many stamps on the planet, one can never get bored.

SV,
Ok, Now that I have a little time and a clear(somewhat) head. Battleship issue of 1899 used to finance the Spanish-American War.

Here is the easy way to tell what you have. Take a 1/2cent ether color line up the perf's. if they match then it is Roulette. The 1/2cent was NOT available as hh7. After a few hundred of these you will be able to see the difference. It is a pain in the A** as they do look very similar when not in pairs. This series is VERY actively collected for cancels! They are listed in "The Battleship Reference".

I probably should have noted, the same image and design was used for the Proprietary Stamps of 1898. Scott #'s RB20-RB31
