About Me

I have collected stamps since I was 5 or so. My mother started me with day of issue envelopes. We somehow found out when and where to send an SASE with the new stamp and it was returned to us cancelled, saying first day of issue and the city in which it was issued, etc. Later my mother's mother passed away and my mother inherited her stamp collections as well as her first day of issue collection. This grandmother worked for the post office in Chinon, France, and must have collected close to if not every single stamp that was issued in France from approx. 1940 through 1975. My mother passed away in 1996 and I inherited these collections. I never thought I would even consider selling them, but divorce, the economy, college tuition for my son, and other circumstances have pushed me to consider selling some or all of them. At very least, I would like to discover their approximate value for insurance purposes, as I am fortunate I did not lose them in a house fire that occurred a few years ago. I also have many, many US stamps and first day of issues from approx. 1975 and on, including an annual book of every stamp made that year since my first son was born: 1992-present. I would like to discover their worth for insurance purposes or sale too, but I'm primarily interested in the French collections' approx. values. Thank you.
