This 1876 check is from the National Bank of Somerset in Somerset, Kentucky. It is made out to Wills & Pearcy and signed by the cashier Robert Gibson. I bought it for the attractive vignettes and have had it in my collection for many years.
Showed this check to my wife on Sat as she is from Somerset, Ky. Asked here but she did not know any of the people on the check. Thanks for posting it. Mike in NYC / meostamps
I love engravings. I think some of the stamp collecting pizazz went out when they started making cartoon like stamps. It seem to be headed that way in paper money also... Nice Check!
As Metalman said that was big money back in those days and when you consider that the weekly wage was I think about two to five dollars that check was a small fortune. As for the art work you don't see it on checks especially like that any more mate very nice Tom thanks for sharing regards Harry
