Gussy you don't know how much you just made my wish list grow. Now if only I could let my monthly budget grow to match it........LOL. I also like the perfins you have in that page, so far I have only found one perfin but am always looking because you never know when one will turn up.

Thanks gussyboy, now I have something else to look for. I never thought there were so many variations to stamps. I thought they were just stamps.
When ever I go surfing through this forum I always learn something.
You people are great.

C.W. you dont need a big budget to collect..if I spend ten dollars a week its a lot...of course I am not counting travel costs to shows in Ottawa, Biloxi,Washington D.C. etc etc I cant count that..but then I dont knock my son for spending $170 last week to go to a 3 day music jam on Hunter Mtn..he went two years in a row and got rainned on good both weekends..he must enjoy it !!

Anyone know about precancels? I was wondering if the wavy line cancels and the rectangular cancels are considered Provincial precancels??(see my scan)I got a whole album of these in that lot of stamps I got from "disappointmentbay". If they are Provincials then maybe it wasn't such a disappointment after all!
Also, I was reading and from what I gather, the last stamp--the red 2 cent "For Defense" with the MW-Oct 42--the ones that are dated are harder to come by.

THANKS!

Another question? The double oval I read about in precancels--is this what it is talking about?

Thanks!

"THE QUEEN" of precancels once was one Bureau precancel with Liberty,MO on it! Only thirty known to be in existence! Cool stuff! The rarest is one with Phenix City, AL on it. Keep your eyes looking for those precancels folks.

Thanks!

Gussy, those American Chemical Society stamps do not appear to be precancels.
As Bob says, they may be called donut cancels but they are not precancels.
The only precancel I see in your first scan is the 2-cent Chicago Ill.
The rest are cancels that were applied to stamps on packages or items
larger than letter size.

Here are the other precancels---note a Molly Pitcher on the third row. And then on the 6th row is the 1975 Americana (definitives) stamps for bulk rate.(one is Chicago and one is Detroit--I think they are called Bureaus?).
Thanks for letting me share!

The "MW" stands for the group or company who used that stamp--for instance if it said "SRC" it would stand for Sears, Roebuck and Company. Was Montgomery Ward in business in 1959? Just a stab at the initials.I guess I need to break down and buy some books on precancels or try to find them used.
