We are looking for 100 volunteers (teachers of grades 3-5) to pilot a new, free service for elementary school teachers nationwide. Stamps Teach is a website to enhance your students' joy for learning! We have lesson plans using collectible postage stamps.
We will provide:
- A link to the Stamps Teach website with downloadable lesson plans.
- Lessons for language arts, math, social studies, and science that meet current curriculum standards.
- The StampVentures learning center with hands-on activities that use stamps in the learning process.
- A free large package of colorful postage stamps for use in the learning center.
-Free membership for your students in the Young Stamp Collectors of America club.
Pilot teachers are asked to teach one of the lessons on the Stamps Teach website between October 2011 and February 2012 and to set up the StampVentures learning center in their classroom as an independent activity. Teachers are also asked to complete an evaluation form regarding their experiences in the pilot program and to distribute information to parents regarding a stamp collecting opportunity for students called the Young Stamp Collectors of America program.
This pilot program is sponsored by the New Initiatives Committee of the Smithsonians's National Postal Museum's Council of Philatelists and the American Philatelic Society, the world's largest non-profit stamp collector organization.

One convoluted way of doing it would be to open the PDF file on your computer, do 'print screen', crop it to show the contents, save the file as a JPEG (or any other picture format) and attach it here.

Do you use stamps as educational tools in your classroom? Have you or other teachers at your school thought it sounded like a good idea to enhance your students' learning, but weren't quite sure how to start? There are some great resources available with rich incentives if you want to participate in a pilot project.
In a joint effort between the National Postal Museum and the American Philatelic Society (APS) to support elementary teachers' efforts for using stamps in the classroom, we are looking for volunteers to try our lessons and provide feedback before the program is launched nationally.
Here's what you get for participating:
Complete lesson plans using collectible postage stamps
Downloadable from a website
Covering integrated language arts, math, social studies, science, and art standards of learning
Large Packet of postage stamps for use in the lessons
Free 1 year membership to APS youth club for students in your class who sign up after the pilot. Those students will get a free USA commemorative album from Mystic Stamp Company.
Learning center with recommended hands-on activities
Chance to contribute to the development of a national teaching tool
We just ask that you:
Set up the learning center in your classroom as an independent activity
Teach one of the lessons
Distribute informational resources to parents on stamp collecting
Complete an evaluation based on your experience with the pilot program

This one looks a lot snazzier than the APS's. There are nicer graphics and stamp images included. If you are interested in the original copy, I can forward the email to you. Yesterday, I dropped off 4 copies of the ad to local elementary schools. Hopefully, some teachers will sign up.  |

That is great! The hard part is getting the teachers involved first and then the students. I would be willing to pass this info along to my sons school & others in my area. I'll even get some flyers to put out at the upcoming stamp bourse. |

I have forwarded them to the principal and she responded saying that she will be letting her teachers know about it. At least I got a response with a day. It is a start. |
