Contest: Voting 4 SCF Souvenir Sheet Ends 10/9

Due to the nature of this contest and to allow for time away from the internet it will run for 2 weeks ending on 10/1/09. At the end of the 2 weeks on 10/2/09 there will be another poll to vote on your favorite design. Then we need to figure out how to get them printed & cost to purchase & whom will distribute them for the SCF.... Hopefully we can get them done and out by the end of October- USA's Stamp Collecting Month. If anyone has any other rule suggestions please speak up.

I'm not a graphic artist or anything, and only used the tools available in Paint, but here goes...





About the Design

It being our first souvenir sheet, why not salute the first stamp ever, the Penny Black?

Note that the "stamp" would look less like a stamp without a "denomination" on it. For this, the inspiration was to use the First designation currently in use on the GB Machin series.

The "1st" is utilized not to show denomination, but rather in place of "First" in "First Souvenir Sheet", which it is.



As for the Souvenir Sheet itself, here is my suggestion for it:



(Note that shrinking the image to get under the size limit here caused slight degradation to our logo)

Uses our logo and our APS designation

"Blowup" of the design

Three copies of the actual stamps

I still believe to expand interest over a broader range of collectors by making it a local post.

For example if you simply add "Local Post" in 'Red' & then "Paid" in black between the words, Local & Post, at the bottom of your stamp, you've now created a local post stamp with the value of paid leaves it wide open to collectors of Locals & ASFE (a stamp from everywhere)

Some members stated a precancel would be cool.
That could be achieved by placing the abbreviation "SCF" between 2 1mm lines
about 18-20mm apart. This again can broaden the appeal across the board at no
increased coast to produce.

What do you think?

Ps If you could find it possible to add the other logo as well,
"What's in your album?"

Maybe the best place for it would be center bottom under the APS
info.

Can I suggest 1 thing. Maybe an off white color. I do think this is a great sheet....A very appealing design.

Well we are off and running with 1 entry. Mine will not be added until the final week, because I will be out of town.

Nice Wpglwr! I'm sorry say that I can't produce a proposed design within the time alloted to submit for consideration.

But, I could make a few suggestions to consider on Wpglwr's design.

Include the year the penny black was issued and the year of the printing of the SCF sheet in fancy number scroll.

I personally would not include the APS logo because people might be confused as to who issued the sheet. Or at the least, believe APS and SCF produced it jointly.

If SCF does not have an attention grabbing attractive logo, maybe one should be developed to be included on the sheet.

Hey, I'm open to anyone's ideas. It's seldom that the first design is totally the same as the final product. Consider this to be the first rough sketch.
Feel free to copy what I've done to your hard drive and play with it if you like.

And yes, Marty, I see what you're saying about the APS logo.

Maybe another contest to design a logo for our forum, maybe?
