This was also meant to be make your own design. The rules of the contest stated:

Rules:
1 entry per person

Must have Stamp Community Forum in the design

Post Designs in this topic thread

Have Fun!

What ever design you want to come up with is just fine. You don't have to have ANY particular concept. Precancel/ no precancel......local post/no local post. Do whatever you want and not what someone tell us to do. This was meant to be fun not a do what they want session. Be creative and come up with YOUR own design. Let the votes decide later. If anyone has certain things they want they should come up with their own design.

"This was meant to be a fundraiser for the forum. I suggested to make a sheet, produce it and sell it to make money for the upkeep of the site."

First, of all not everybody has access to the software to help them design such a project. So we are limiting the entries that way.
There are likely a number of members who are creative but don't have the means to articulate what they wish to at this site.

Second, Those who have been active with their designs have done a great job and very clever as well and I commend them all for there efforts.

Third, We have not lost site of a fundraiser. In fact the broader the range of interest of are chosen design the greater the potential return on investment. If you are referring to the potential creation of "First Day Covers" from around the world as a local post could double or triple the SCF return per unit.

Forth, if you are also referring to my suggestions, WpgLwr, took to heart, well they are just that and the suggestions were there for everyone to use or not. WpgLwr will decide on whatever final design he chooses to go with.

Fifth, It was not stated that no one could present/post their early designs for critique and others make suggestions that what families do!

Take Care!
Mike

Copy "busy" thanks DjD!
Have reoriented the avatars on a hopefully 'neat' layout, the layout and coloring is fluid and can change but still following the basic design concept, the Globe symbolizing the world-wide membership and what we comprise of via each member's avatar that also symbolizes the membership presence for the year of issue 2009

I have not filled in the background color, and have left it open, for whatever color that may be preferred, I suggest planet light-green, or sunrise Yellow, perhaps sky-blue.

Cheers!

It seems that a controversy has the possibility of appearing here, and perhaps I need to explain myself.

Lest anyone think I am entering multiple designs, let me just say that this is not my intention.

My basic design remains the same -- the Penny Black detail, with "Stamp Community Family" (although I think it's okay if the word "Forum" is used too) surrounding it on the sides and above.

I realize that perhaps warrehouse's suggestions may be considered by some to result in more than one design; however, I took them as merely that -- suggestions -- and if nothing else, they show how adaptable the basic design is. I do realize that I submitted two designs for the final sheet, but then again, as I said in the beginning, no design is ever finalized at the outset. I do not consider the sheet with the block of four to be an entry; it was kind of like doodling out loud; I much prefer the sheet with the blown-up artwork and the three stamps at the right to be the definitive design, no matter what format the final stamps are in.

There have been other suggestions made by other people, and they were also considered, and in some cases adopted in whole or in part, and I don't consider myself irritated by any of these suggestions, because I don't see any of them as exercises in nitpicking.

I don't think anyone has lost sight of this being a fundraising matter, but that doesn't have to be the only reason for the idea. Creating awareness of our family never hurts, because it will generate interest and more membership. If anything, I would also like to see copies of the finished product distributed to the applicable columnists of as many stamp periodicals as possible, especially if it results in their giving us some ink, and turns into possible orders from elsewhere. If we can appeal to as many specialities within the stamp collecting world as possible, why not do it?

Again, I don't see warrehouse's suggestions as being negative ones. I kind of like the fact that he suggested a precancel, because I have recently started collecting them, and I got kind of a kick out of creating one. Do a precancel? Sure, why not? Why not a local post? Hey, if the basic design supports it, why not? Happy to oblige! Far from being a headache, it opened my mind to the possibilities I had never thought of.

No matter what design is picked, be it mine or someone else's, here are three things I hope happen at the end of the day:
1. I hope we make some money for the site.
2. I hope we gain some interest in the site.
3. I hope we gain some new membership at the site.

And after all is said and done, aren't these things the most important?

I could use some help on an idea I have, but I don't have the skill set or the computer programs to do it.
I will gladly share in the rewards and admiration of our peers when we win the contest if anyone would like to help.

That is a grand idea!

Here's my idea. To start, the background would look slightly faded and be full of loose stamps all jumbled up together. Multiple angles kind of thing, except I would like to see the avatar's instead of actual stamps. This should cover the entire background, edge to edge.
Next, centered and straight across the middle would be the "Stamp Community Family" script. Arcing above would be the "1st souvenir stamp collection sheet" Arcing below, would be the "Education is the key," motto.
Centered along the bottom would be a view of what ever price was agreed on.

That's my idea. Any suggestions?

Devlin

Sounds to me like a job for Photo Shop or Text Art; regrettably, I have neither on my computer. It does sound like an interesting idea, though.

Good stuff
I do not see controversy, what I see are suggestion and positive comments.
I too wish I possessed the "Artistic juices".
I also like the idea of the fundraiser aspect, count me in.

ditto and same same on that Wpgl.wr!
Thanks Warrehouse!

By the way, anyone has a suggestion on just what size stamp we are heading for?

I would guess a 1.75"W x 1"H or is that too large?
Size would have a bearing on the visibility of the details, like many avatars or multiple colors

True. However, there is no one standard size for a souvenir sheet, or even for a stamp. This, however, may be limited to sizes handled by whoever prints it.
I would think our artwork will likely be redone at the printing stage, anyway, although I could be wrong. One problem is that Paint, when it saves, doesn't save it as sharply as it was when you created the artwork. I doubt that anything posted here would be print quality, and it is likely that it would have to be recomposed.
