Hi folks.......

This has turned out to be one of those 10 minute projects that has taken on a life of it's own, during which I found material for several other projects I've been working on that I'll be posting here fairly soon.

These pictures and the info are from the same APS as the Boston Machine cancels and another APS handbook called a General Catalog of US Postmarks.......from my cover collection and a cut corner collection that I found about 15 years ago.

I've found myself drawn to this area of collecting because it is overlooked by many collectors, the diversity of material and wide variety of colors.

And finally.......here's a UPS meter.......the only one I've ever seen.

Questions and comments welcome.

Thanks so much for this post, I have always collected
them (in a random fashion) and it's nice to see and share
information that makes the collection so much more enjoyable.
Your information is very good and very much appreciated.
Bravo!

Hi rod......

You could build a decent side collection of poet related material. Whenever possible try to keep whole covers, so many have been cut/or soaked there's not too many decent covers left from the early days of meters. Have you ever seen any foreign meters ?

Tom,
You have some nice meter cancels!

I collect meters and meter slogan cancels on cover (mostly from the 50's - 70's) Are you looking for any particular ones for your projects? I may have some dupes you could use.

Dan

Experienced stamps need a home too. I'd rather have an example that is imperfect than no example.
I collect for enjoyment, not investment.

G'day nr-notrare,
sorry not to reply earlier I wasn't "subscribed"

yes I have meters from all over the world, I trade with a guy in Croatia, we exchange "floor sweepings"
(well somebody has to collect the eclectic"
They are in no particular order, I intend to sort them when I get interred with my collection (I'm planning a sea container)

I like Mr. Peck's observation, "meter collecting is pure collecting" as there is no monetry value attached to the hobby.

An unusual specimen "Relief No3"
Relief meters (and cancellers too) were employed
when the office machine or post office

canceller were lost
or in for repair.

Great meters everyone.

I can sometime equate what problems meter collectors have in common with collectors who also collect, phantoms, cinderellas and perfins.

Meters as well as the other type of philately I have mentioned above had to fight harder to get their interests the respect they all deserve.

For anyone who thinks that meter collecting would be boring, this page would certainly turn the hardest set collector in favour of them. Then again, I was always a back-of-the-book collector at hear anyway.

Great samples here. I sure enjoy this forum.

Cheers

They are very warm and encouraging words there Bujutsu,
We, the Council of the "collectors of everything" have
returned a strong vote in favour, and you have been elected
our "Propaganda and Appreciation Secretary"

We look forward to a long and mutually benefitting partnership,
The pay is modest, well, actually there is no pay,
but the prestige of the job should outway any fiscal discrepency.
We are a small and loyal band of collectors
"Long live Meters"
