I thought getting the Durland Standard Plate Number Catalog would answer this question for me, but it makes no mention of a plate number mismatch for this issue. Any ideas as to how often something like this would happen? Thanks.

It is not an error, but a printing freak known as ghost tagging. It occurs on tagged stamps of the 1960s-1980's.

It is not rare, but is not exactly common. It's neat when it happens on a plate block, because sometimes you see numbers from another plate. Definitely a keeper for fun!

Very interesting! How does it happen? As a bonus, where should I read about how it happens (i.e. what book would be good to read; not go read in the library or the bathroom, etc)?

I am curious too as what exactly "ghost" tagging is and what causes it. If it were on Canadian stamps, they would be very collectible I am sure.

Sorry, I've been in and out all day, trying to catch up on things to be done at home now that I'm finally home again.

Only got a few minutes to get my SCF fix. I'll be back and explain in 1-2 hours.

Excellent! I think ghost tagging makes excellent collectible varieties.
