I thought getting the Durland Standard Plate Number Catalog would answer this question for me, but it makes no mention of a plate number mismatch for this issue. Any ideas as to how often something like this would happen? Thanks.  A Closeup  |

It is not an error, but a printing freak known as ghost tagging. It occurs on tagged stamps of the 1960s-1980's. |

It is not rare, but is not exactly common. It's neat when it happens on a plate block, because sometimes you see numbers from another plate. Definitely a keeper for fun! |

Very interesting! How does it happen? As a bonus, where should I read about how it happens (i.e. what book would be good to read; not go read in the library or the bathroom, etc)? |

I am curious too as what exactly "ghost" tagging is and what causes it. If it were on Canadian stamps, they would be very collectible I am sure. |
