Well true SV, I also have a Canon that works well. Fortunately I got one with 4 individual ink tanks. Ink is so expensipe but fairly easy to refill fairly cheaply.

I had an Epson printer. It did sound like a car wreck in action. The color ink would "run" out despite the fact I never printed in color. Epson along with HP and Lexmark have been part of class action lawsuits because of fraud when it comes to the ink. The printers would say that the ink has run out, when in fact there was plenty of ink. My wife has a Cannon which is much better since you can replace individual colors, but it still won't run if one is missing and the ink is still mucho dinero. You can get $2 back from Staples for each empty ink cartilidge one returns, but they are still close to $20 each. I can get ink pens for free from hotels I stay at for work.

I have a place down the block that will fill ANY printer cartridge for $15 or less. I have a HP with a Tri-Color Cartridge, it costs me $12.

You must be buying third party cartlidges which is fine. Those from Canon are $15.79 to $18.99 each. The Espon brand cartlidges are $16.29 to $20.99. All prices are from Staples and matched to model. I know there's refill kits too and some models you need a chip resetter. Still not going to use any form of inkjet printer in my lifetime. The companies involved are just too deceptive and greedy.
Epson:

HP:

Recently (this year) HP, Canon, Lexmark and Epson are also bringing forth lawsuits against many of the maker's of third party cartlidges and refillers over patent violations (trying to make it where you can only buy the high priced inks). What a mess.

I just looked at laser printers...some models are affordable, but again the toner isn't cheap and you have to replace the drum every so often. Thermal printers would be ideal in theory, but the models I've seen are not cheap and most are for commercial businesses and bar code production. There are dot matrix printers still availible on the market ancd that might be a very viable option and the ribbons are $6 - $12 tops.

Kodak makes a printer that uses inexpensive ink. I think the secret is that the print head is separate from the ink cartridge so you are not replacing the print head every time you change an ink cartridge.

battle. mine ink tanks are genuine, I just get them online at a great discount.

to be honest I use my laser printer for the majority of my printing at home. I is a HP LaserJet 2100tn. I have yet to replace the drum, I have had it over 5 years. Bought it new for $100.00 (it came from some US Gov. scrap) the government gets rid of stuff every couple of years and I had an "IN" with a recycling company that had the contract. So I got all my computer stuff wicked cheap.

anyway cartridges for the laser printer are $25.00 to 30.00 each. I buy the refurbs.
