Well it's not my only British car.. the other one's hiding in the Garage.. '62 Vauxhall PA Velox project car.. one of a SMALL handful in the USA (Yep it's LHD, bought it in Canada).

My XJ8 is an 06... bought it off lease last July. I've been around Jags my whole life, they're really MUCH better cars than you'd think, these day's they're no worse, and possibly better, than any other Euro Luxury car. FWIW, I have had ONE problem with the car since I bought it in 17k miles... the electronic throttle went bad. $800+ part. Oh yeah, made by DENSO and identical looking to the one on my Lexus! (Denso is owned by Toyota and is a major Japanese OEM).

As cheap as these cars are I can't understand why people aren't lined up to buy them... oh well, cheaper Jag for me! :D

So that's the car that I drove to the ASDA Mega Show in NYC a week ago Friday. Umm... and I drive it to the safety deposit box and the stamp store... :)

That E-Type is just *drool* gorgeous. What about Jaguar on stamps as a theme ? I am still searching for a theme - I get quite jealous with some of the thematic collections out there.

Was my dream car for years also,
apparently a cow to steer and drive however,
and one had to be a russian gymnast just to get in.

My first car was a Mark V 50 pounds IIRC
(The boot of which was jemmied and my first stamp collection stolen)

Thematic? probably very difficult,
I know of only 5 stamps myself, 3 of which are cinderellas

I can see 4 stamps from GB featuring Jaguars, or parts thereof:
6d (1966) SG702
26p (1982) SG1200
43p (1996) SG1948
2nd (2005) SG2561

And then there is an Australian one:
45c (2002) SG2176

Guess we shouldn't make this a "car" blog.

I nominate this quote as "most blatantly ignored comment of the month".

(I like a nice Jag, very classy, but i'm an Audi TT girl myself...)

Speaking of dying, it seems to me this forum has only gotten more active in the last couple of months.

I hope you're right - and certainly the internet will help in keeping stamp collecting going. There are some good sites out there - how many people know Keijo's Stamp Collecting Blog (http://www.stampcollectingblog.com/)? Here's how Keijo introduces himself:

"Hi,

I'm Keijo Kortelainen, the "casual stamp collector" behind all the stories of Stamp Collecting Blog.

I'm a 30+ years old family man, small business owner (in B2B consulting & training services) and above all, a stamp collector, from Sumiainen, Finland.

I have collected stamps since the mid 1980's – sometimes more, sometimes less passionately. Like most collectors I have started with wholeworld, but then specialized to my own country (Finland)… After few years with Finland stamps, I swiched back to wholeworld collecting as it is simply much more fun. And unlike most advanced wholeword collectors, I collect all eras – from classics to modern."

I found it the site by chance this summer, and have been enjoying his somewhat idiosyncratic but always thoughtful take on our wonderfully eclectic hobby.

Why not give it a try?

I do have a Jaguar Related cover... here it is!

Image shamelessly stolen from the ebay auction where I bought it. 99p I think I paid plus about 2 pounds to ship it to America.

There are lots of very specific car forums, and the user of one of those is how I ended up here. I'm grateful. Very grateful. And stamper folks have/ are some of the most multi-dimensional persons I've ever met. The total volume of knowledge is really overwhelming. A Personal vote allowed...? The segways are what make this place alive. Thanks all.

Edit...pps, there are numerous places where we could go and not just design a t-shirt, but promote it... on line. We could, intergalactically, recognize a fellow member by his shirt. A uniform ?

For those who don't know, Keijo is a member here, under the handle "scb". He has a fine Finnish semi-postal for an avatar. And I can also recommend his fine blog.

Ryan

David and Ryan, thanks for the praise. It's nice to know both of you have liked reading my philatelic adventures....

I've got a feeling that a lot of non-commercial stamp related websites are doomed to be found like this, by accident.

Sites like mine simply don't have the resources to promote their existence besides random word-to-mouth. But who knows, maybe my blog will get a lucky strike some day and feature as the APS website of the month (or maybe LondonBus writes a line or two about it for British Philatelic Bulletin, or...see, now You got me having having daydreams, LOL).

Re, Jaguars... Nice looking car, but I fear these would not last long in Finnish climate. LOL.

Look like complete bogus to me...

Well I can say that stamping is not dieing in our home!
And that is the biggest understatement for me this year!

I must admit that 2 wheels rule not 4!
