Every time I read on this and other forums about Ebay/Paypal problems
such as the recent lively one here which for some reason is now locked, I feel kind of left out.
but at the same time
You see I have never bought or sold anything on ebay or anywhere else
online for that matter.
A few years ago I was going to sign up for Paypal but they asked so
many questions that I decided I don't need that crap.

Anyway I'm just wondering, am I the only one here who doesn't use
these services?

Guilty as charged your honour :)
I joined paypal 6 months ago, just to support SCF.
I do not use ebay
Stampgal was extraorinarily generous in purchasing
a philatelic book for me, and I think I used paypal to reimburse,
so I have found that useful.

Otherwise local auctions and my stamp club is sufficient to
support my philatelic desires.

BTW: being with paypal 6 months I have been scammed 3 times

This arrived yesterday, I believe the scam is
there is a large banner saying "cancel this order"
I think when you click it, it confirms a useful address
A completely bogus yes impressive paypal broadsheet

I have never used feE-Bay and won't. I do have a Pay Pal account but I only use it for transactions with a friend of mine in China.

I have to be honest and say that I have never personally experienced a problem whenever we used Paypal and we do use it every now and then. Having said this, I also have to respect everyones elses view here for the opposite. It is too bad that people are being scammed.

I guess, until we have been scammed personally, we will keep using Paypal as we find it quite convenient for ourselves. Both my wife and I buy old postcards for our collections and use this method.

My opinion of course

Rod. I regularly get those emails on email accounts not associated with paypal.. I don't think it happened because you signed up on paypal. But you never know.

I regularly use Paypal for both buying and selling.
I have not experienced any problems in the many years of service.
it is both speedy and efficient ,I will continue to use this until something better comes along.

If I had to buy stamps directly from a dealer or collector I'd have about 16 in my collection.

Those of us living in the suburbs of the boonies don't have much choice but to buy online. I've bought some 250 to 300 ebay lots and nearly 5000 StampWants/BidStart lots and paid for every one with PayPal. Maybe I've been extra lucky, but the only time I've had a problem with PayPal was the time they pulled my account for a security check and it took me about three days to get it back in business. I was ticked off at the time, but I can live with PayPal taking extra care.

Besides, how else would I send LondonBus1 his monthly support money?

David Alt-F4 is the Microsoft Windows shortcut to close/exit the current window.

Some browser pop-ups have an X in the top right corner that looks like the "Close" button, but notice when you point to it, the cursor is the "index finger" used for clicking browser links. In other words, when you click it, you're not really clicking close, you're clicking a link that you have no idea what it does.

If the cursor is the standard Northwest Pointing Arrow, cursor, then you're probably clicking an authentic close button.

When in doubt, I prefer to put my cursor on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, right-click the program name, then click close.

Fair comment.

In the past, I have found perhaps I am discussing
Giraffes, say, on SCF or with my friends, and suddenly
out of the blue, I get spam mail offering Giraffe mittens
or something like that.
It's a bit scary.

Just want to mention I wasn't knocking ebay or Paypal or Bidstart
or whatever, how could I since I never used them.

I was mainly curious whether I was the only dinosaur here when it
comes to online transactions.

I suppose if I were younger I wouldn't hesitate in going with the
majority. But since I don't need the aggravation that seems to be
part of this Ebay/Paypal scenario I think I'll pass.

One observation I have noticed about all this is that there is a lot
of whining and squawking regarding sellers who supposedly
deceitfully and wrongfully describe an item to cheat the buyer.
Yet some of these same buyers brag to high heaven when they pick up
a real steal bargain mainly because the seller was ignorant about that item.

I would like add that I strongly believe that internet auctions are probably the main reason for the drastic drop in stamp prices
of most countries, especially European.
Great if you're buying though.

In the past five years I bought stamps mainly on ebay, Delcampe, Stampwant and Zillions of stamps and I always send payment via Paypal. It's this way I got to build collections at a fast pace when money was available. I also bought a nice Poland sheets collection from a dealer in the Netherlands. If I go to the Stampclub I just spend my time talking and don't trade much or buy much because there is not much for me. Sometime there is only 3 or 4 persons attending and 1 of them is always talking about is project of a new catalogue and some else too that I don't give a sh... I go to stamp shows on occasion but there you pay usually higher than on the net. Finally I spend allot of time shopping on ebay and others trying to find the best deal and I like it as much as stamping. Paypal is fast and secure for me. I cannot do without it.
