for those who like to make graphs...every day new recruits say hello...a high percentage apparently do not survive the first days and are not heard from again..would be interesting to see how many who introduce themselves make the 50 posts !!

I'm not sure about a graph, but if you go to the member list it tells you how many posts everyone has made. There are 35 pages with page 1 with the highest posters the PILLARS decreasing down the page. On page 5 are the members with posts in the 40's and 50's. There are 30 pages of members whom never made it to 50 posts, several of which didn't get beyond the Intro posting area if they posted at all. |

I guess its like when they try to guestimate the number of stamp collectors in the United States..one figure will say MILLIONS...but what does that count..people who buy sheets of current stamps and salt them away..i would hesitate to call them stamp collectors ! |

philb, I have only been a member of SCF for seven weeks and I see from the members list that I am ranked in the number of posts as being on the third page out of 35.
Given the friendly and knowledgeable collectors who regularly participate in discussions here, I find it odd that so many people who join don't take the time to post any/more questions or contribute to the discussions. I know that some other boards are not as friendly and sometimes belittle individuals who say the wrong thing but this has never been the case at SCF in my experience. I am also impressed by the friendly welcome that newbies get when they introduce themselves in the Introduce Yourself Here area. I think that the regular contributors are doing everything possible to make new members welcome and encourage participation so perhaps these infrequent contributors have busy lives and only have a question or two that needs answering. Maybe they will return to this site when they find more leisure time later in life. |

I would add that a lot of topics are covered regularly and they may simply be lurking. Why ask if your question is already answered? |

Well, I've been a member just over two weeks, just made 50 posts today and I'm on page 5. I know it's not a competition but....yay me! |

All credit to the mature collectors who show an interest and post...i guess some fellows were too advanced and moved on elsewhere..but for me theres much to be learned from everyone ! |

Since it is an open forum and anyone can view posts I think that does contribute to the hign number of lurkers. Then there are the members whom read the threads & don't login and post. I prefer to join in the fun and to logon and select the ACTIVE button to see what I've missed since the last time I logged on. I don't want to miss something! |

I've just returned to stamps a few months ago, after being away from it for years and years. It's never too late to learn anything, and this has been a great place to learn, and even contribute. Great fun! |

I wonder if some of those who are lurking are members who forgot what their password was. I don't see any instructions on how to reset your password.
Ignore my comment - I found the instruction regarding forgetting your password under FAQ. |

It took me a while to register - as a newbie collector its often hard to contribute meaningful answers especially when surrounded by others who have been collecting most of their life! |

panda.bear, You need have no fear to post. You will not be belittled here. I have many years of collecting and still make some bonehead comments. You may be corrected, but it will be gentle. And you may have more to say than you think. Everyone knows something that others may not know. |
