Need better scan. First is Australia (southwest?), last one seems a nice french (III. Napoleon-possibly with pretty nice CV, too bad for the corner), upper row 2-3-4 hmmm...Latvija? Need better scan, especially the last one seems interresting to me.

2-3-4 Russia 1914, 1kopek,3 and 10 k (missing from the complete set the 7k value). CV depends on perforation (11,5/12,5/13,4/imperf). |

wachoo - prior to Australian Federation in 1901, all the individual colonies in Australia issued their own stamps. After Federation they continued to print their own stamps until the end of 1912, since that's how long it took for the first Australian Commonwealth stamp (the Kangaroo and map series) to be issued. So anything Australian pre 1912 will be State issues. They're listed in Scott prior to Australia (Volume 1.) I am loathe however to use Scott for Australian States as it's very simplified and doesn't list all watermark or perforation varieties, which can have significant price differences.
I would need to know the watermark for your South Australian - it was issued with either a Crown over SA watermark in 1904 (SG 180 or Scott 134) or Crown over A in 1906 (SG 295 or Scott 146.)

Scott catalogs list South Australia and the other states in front of Australia in Volume 1. Your stamp also has the O S perfin - official, which is not listed.
2nd: French Revenue - not in Scott 3rd: China - not in Scott (Styled Sun is a giveaway) 4th: Maybe Saudi Arabia, probably not in Scott |

The postmark on the south australian looks dodgy to me.
Hmmm, maybe the pmk is genuine, but the punctured small "OS" is a forgery I would suspect, the small OS should have 12 punctures, with the centre holes of the "O" not aligned or off kilter.

In a cursory look through Gibbons Commonwealth, I didn't see a reference to a perfin/puncture O.S., though I'll admit that the Official section for S.A. is filled with information and I might have missed it. If it is legitimate, would the puncture be post-federation? |

Cjd - yes, this puncture would be post-federation (if legitimate.) The stamp is a "Commonwealth" stamp, even though it's printed in S.A. I've never collected O.S. perfins, simply because of there being so many forgeries and while some are easily picked as fakes, some can be very hard to tell.

Yes, from Feb 1874 sth aust dispensed with the departmental opts, and opted for a printed "os" In 1913 aust punctured using the large "OS" but it weakened the stamp, so a small "os" was used, I am not aware of the date this occurred. 1931-1933 reverted back to printed "os"

The OS perfin issue is complicated by the fact that State Government Departments used their own punctures (apart from Qld who only used the Commonwealth puncture.) S.A. used its own OS puncture from 1903 to 1912, then used the Commonwealth puncture. I don't want to hijack the thread with details of State Punctures though. Rod - the large OS Commonwealth puncture was phased out gradually, commencing the end of 1913 (they realised pretty quickly it was crap ) Balf |
