Unfortunately Dianne, written letters and other correspondence is either email or metered mail. And of course texting and other cell phone use further reduces written correspondence. About the only way other than buying a FDC is to mail a letter to yourself from a local post office.

Joel I guess us stamp collectors are going to have to remedy this trend. I find if I write someone they usually write back( wait now that I think about it I usually write to people from this forum)

Phil I'm curious what kind of trap do you have for japanese beetles I have over 50 varieties of lilies and though I have not had beetles yet I'm certain they'll find me someday.

Among other things, we invented the electric kettle, around 1940. Most homes have one. I hear they only caught on in the US very recently.

I just picked up Poe and Oregon today. The Poe stamps looks nice, I can take or leave the Oregon stamp though.

I have a few ideas. The USPS can take back their business that the Internet has stolen from them through the years. Here are my ideas and maybe they can help to refuel the stamping community.

Stamps based on Internet websites. They may need to get permission but the USPS is a worthy cause, and it is cheap advertising. In no particular order
1.Google logo
2.Microsoft/Apple (don't want to take sides)
3.Yahoo!
4.Woot
5.Netflix
6. Stamp Community
and so on..

Also, there was a company mentioned that also sells shirts that the users create and then vote on.
I would love to have the opportunity to design stamps and have others vote, I would buy them...Democracy is the best!

I honestly think all postage is heading to metered to end postal mishaps which can allow an individual to make a little money on their behalf.Maybe its just me.

I think we should start a petition and send it to the Post Master General. See, now you have me in a panic.

I love going to the post office to send some mail and to treat myself to a few new stamps. I should have probably taken a career in mail carrying since I love post offices. I love the atmosphere, the small and of course, the stamps.

I will form an "exploratory" thread to see if we should start a petition.

Thanks

Remember when radio was going to kill the newspaper? Remember when photography was going to kill painting? Remember when TV was going to kill the movie houses? I think I could come up with a pretty long list.

So will the meter kill the postage stamp? Hardly, for if that was true ti would of taken place so 70 years ago when the meter came out.

I'm sorry to tell you that stamps aren't going anywhere soon. Though they may no go through system on Saturdays in the future.
