Although this isn't a flag cancel, is this what you're referring to as to the vertical bars? This was described in a previous thread as a Universal Columbia 2-Bar Machine Cancel. |

Yes wt1 just like that and now that I see it I think that may be what I was thinking about. Was there flag cancels made like that? I think so but now I'm unsure? |

Each machine maker designed their own dies with a variety of different killers. I'm not sure who originated the wavy line killer but International used them by 1893 which pre-date the American Postal Machine flags. |

Stampfan, the Huntington flag was American Postal Machine model B14 and the Peru was Doremus postal Supply model E.

Russ, thank you so much. The two cancels do complement one another quite well. The card itself was redirected from Huntington In to Van Buren In. I learn at least one thing every day on this forum. I hope that I don't wear out my welcome. |

Minor correction. The Peru Indiana postmark reference above is from a Doremus cancelling machine, not a Columbia machine. |

I found this older thread and thought to post my only example. Boston, June 3, 1897, type B14 ... that's all I know. |
