Has anyone heard of this error qualifying as such a rarity that it would realize such an absurd ebay asking price? Also read the "Terms and Conditions" section for another shocker!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-sheets-20..._1017wt_1344

These type of listings seem to have become more prevalent in recent months, so I thought I'd post this example.

The auction is so odd I don't know where to start. I think I will end with this quote.

Quote:
If you buy these stamps I really hope you love this collection because I can't promice that you will ever be able to sell them for the price I am selling them for in this auction. But isn't a large part of collecting really rare items the rights to "bragg" that you have the only ones?

Edit: The poor English isn't "promicing" either.

To tell you the truth, I didn't even read down that far in the listings.

Of course, you are given an offer to "examine" them at a hefty price, too!

Quote:
ANYONE IS WELCOME TO EXAMINE THESE STAMPS AT YOUR EXPENSE BEFORE YOU BUY THESE IF YOU WISH at which time you will be required to supply all my transportation to your location from my home as well as return transportation for examination as well as lodgeing and meals
.

By the way, I bet the seller didn't even realize that he quoted the wrong date, as this set of stamps was issued in 2006 (not 2005). He's probably looking at the year date on the stamp which is not always accurate to the date of issue.

my personal favorite..."When you contact me I will give you a personal code which I too will have a copy of. If you do not contact me in person and have the personal code that I have a copy of you'r bidd will not be allowed"
he/she spelled "bid" wrong also
their is just so much of this kind of buffoonery in that huge run-on paragraph that you could pick about anything to laugh at!...

It doesn't have a unique Scott catalog number (at least it doesn't in the 2009 edition), so I doubt it's worth anything. And Scott has some pretty obscure stamp errors listed in it. Perhaps he should contact Amos and get it recognized and valued as a true error.

Mendacity is a trait not greatly appreciated by philatelists. I shold advise you to steer clear of such excercises.

What a joke, $65,000.00 ? While I do see that it is an error sheet it might be worth some good money, but 65K give me a break. Didn't the Bugs Bunny issue have some sheets with shifted Perforations that runs around $500.00 ?

Perhaps he will take you up on your offer. In the meantime you might actually study a subject long before you comment on it.

Can you believe that auction has now ended with NO BUYER! The interesting thing I found was that the Seller has a 100% positive feedback record. I wonder how that can be?

I'll be curious to see if the item gets re-listed.
