I have been 'working' with sorting stamps and found lots of Europa
stamps. Thought I start a project and here is my idea. Please let me know if you think it is toooo much of Europa. I did check the search function and did not see anything about Europa.

The first Europa stamps started at 1956 to 1973. Then the stamps changed to a CEPT symbol (European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations) in 1974 to 1992. From 1993 to 2014 to some other common symbol.

The Europa stamps add up to 17 years. I plan on 6 threads.
Here is my first posting as an example. Please add any (missing) stamps or any comments but please keep it in the years 1956 to 1961.

Europa stamps have been issued annually since 1956. First sets representing the founding 6 members of the ECSC, European Coal and Steel Community.

1956 - Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands

A tower in the form of the 6 letters of the word Europa. Designed by Frenchman Daniel Gonzague.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1957 - Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Saarland, Switzerland
A common theme of Peace and Welfare through Agriculture and Industry

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1958 - Austria Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Saarland, Turkey

A dove flying above the letter E of Europe. Symbolising the co-operation of the European Postal Services as a vehicle of realizing a United Europe. Designed by Dutchman Andre Van der Vossen

I know Europa is a big topical area for some people and I am not necessarily a fan. But what was the whole concept behind the Europa issues - a signal of unity? A signo of unity in a specific area - such as industry? or culture? or transportation?

And did Europa set a specific theme each year for the member nations to follow?

I know one of the years - either from the 1950s and 1970s - yielded a bunch of stamps featuring coaches (stagecoaches), which is one of my topics, so I was always happy to see those.

Nice work and nice dedication!

Europa stamps basically started in 1956 with a common design. In 1957, the designs were all different. 1958 to 1973, again similar designs. 1974 and later had common themes (such as paintings) with the exception of 1984 and 2000 which again had common designs. I only collect the common design stamps, that is why the information on the other stamps is a bit sketchy.

This website gives a good picture of the Europa stamps past and present. In the text "ECSC" is the acronym for European Coal and Steel Community.

Thanks, falconrw

I was looking for trees same as Germany. Today I read that they were
different. This is nice, but a lot of work. I did not realize how complex that issue is. I have some from the 71 to 73's and I will start posting there. Thanks again.

This has taken care of the 1956 and 1957 issues. I will continue to post all of the rest and I think folks will generally be surprised at how may stamps there are and how diverse the designs are as the common design stamps were not used in all countries. I will now scan the 1958 stamps and try to get them all in one post. We'll see.

These Countries are all done and completed for the respective years. I just did the 1959 Year Set - Complete. Sorry for any duplicates from your postings, but it is the only way I can through this. The Stupid Bowl is on and I must now go watch the Foolsball Game with the family. I will continue to post all of the Europa I have by year sets.
