Mila_ recently had a birthday and to celebrate she sent me some great items to use as prizes for a contest.

I'm still wondering what kind of contest to run.

any ideas?

You could use the one where the members guess the selling value of a stamp on E-Bay - it has the advantage of being easy to run.

or you could post close up pics of stamps and we have to identify what country they belong to. You may need different categories though for newbies and long term collectors.

The highest U.S. denomination appears on the $50,000 Distilled Spirits Excise Tax stamp issued in 1950.

Do Tax Stamps count as Postage Stamp as well?????

By definition, I wouldn't think so. But I don't make the rules.

Ah shoot I thought I may have have a shoot at this one But it looks like MK is right. That stamp collecting for dummies book would come in handy these days as I fight through all the American definitives with flags on them .

Yeah it was a toss up since many revenues were at times used for postage. In fact many PO's would accept them for postage, though why anyone would use a $50,000 revenue for postage would be strange. But then again the PO has let many foreign stamps go through the system for postage too so go figure. At least it was an opportunity to mention a $50,000 stamp.
