The July 23rd Linn's explains to some degree what is happening with the MLB press sheets with all four players on it. They anticipate a print total of 2500. However, to insure that there won't be any variations between the latest run and the previous 1000, the printer will destroy the first run. Although it would have been nice to have one of the original 1000, I can understand their reasoning. Again, as has been already pointed out, they have not indicated that they won't print more if the demand is there, but as of now it seems that the entire print will be 2500 to match the numbers of the individual players.

remember that these are all uncut. which also means they are all perf-less as well. They aren't putting perforations on the either.

Which is why they should get a unique Scott number and are philatelically significant. Quite the pain.

Agreed, probably the best compromise USPS could have made, and yes, the destruction of the original 1000 printed indicates that they are sensitive to the issue of accidentally producing a new variety. So all is well in la-la land. I get the impression from Linn's story that 2500 sheets is IT, no more. Perversely, somebody at USPS will probably be promoted for this debacle.

Liked doug2222's suggestion that this stupidity will probably get someone promoted at USPS. Sad, but true. Rereading the July copy of Stamp News, I get the suspicion that the editor sincerely believes that no one in USPS has a clue how collectors think. This is a perfect case as it has so many of the elements of ignorance harkening back to Postmaster General James Farley's stupidity of the '30s. Lord, please watch over your humble flock of philatelists and protect us from repeated attacks and miscalculations of pencil-necked bureaucrats only out to make a buck at our expense, Amen!

As of today (07/10/2012) the 4 Player Uncut Press Sheets are again reported to be "Sold Out" and the listing has been dropped from the USPS Shopping web site. I guess they hit their 2500 Uncut Press Sheets quota.

Now let's see if they really hold to that number or if they will change their minds (again) and print more.

Oh God! I hate myself! I've not been logging into SCF for a week and I missed the chance to buy the uncut press sheet again!

Apastuszak,

Please remember me when you get the uncut sheets. PM me when you've got the strip / blocks / pane prepared..

I've been over at CoinCommunity and TOTALLY missed this! I got the individual player uncut press sheets, but not the multiplayer sheet. Snooze you lose, I guess.

Ok ... I've got my individual player press sheets. My intention was to cut them into panes and further divide at least one pane into blocks. I've never cut a press sheet before and I'm not entirely sure how to begin to ensure the panes are the proper dimensions. The best I can think of is laying it out on a large flat surface, using a straight edge & scalpel. Measure twice, cut once. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Cal516, I've been wondering about that myself since another SCF member and I went in together for one of the press sheets with all four ballplayers. The best idea I believe would be to use a good quality bulk paper cutter - the kind with a large swingdown blade. That should give a nice clean cut line and also allow for accurate measurements. Yeah, measure twice; cut once! Very very true.

My plan is to use a metal yardstick and an X-Acto knife with a fresh blade. The paper cutter I have won't cut a sheet that big. If you'd prefer I cut it some some other way, let me know.

My card has not been charged yet for the se-tenant sheet. I assume it's not going to get charged till September, when those sheets ship.

apastuszak, sounds like a good plan to me. When I got back into collecting stamps, it never occurred to me im my wildest dreams that I be trying to figure out the best way to separate imperforate stamps. With very few exceptions, I thought we'd quit cutting imperfs back in the 1920s. Back to the future! Next thing you know based on the cost of postage, there'll be a renewed use of perfins.

What are people using to store these uncut press sheets? I've got some still in tubes from a while back and I've got to get them flat. I saw a 2011 thread on this subject but it had no practical solutions.

I'm cutting mine in half, and then cutting my half into se-tenants.
