according to scotts and online sources, stamps of this era were notoriously off center. The fact all for sides are away from the stamp design, should rate it as VF. I think the toning could be handled by a dip in Peroxide. Anyway it's out for a cert at the moment, along with the 37 and a 1p Red mint OG
Thanks Russ for great explanation- I knew of the types but assumed each were done at a different stage in time or plate alterations. Now I understand better that type 1-2-3 were at the same time.
I have wondered about the centering grade on such stamps; ones that are always off-center. Must the design still have equal amounts of margin all around to be classified as an XF or VF as a current day stamp?
And, they are very nice stamps. I wish I had them!
