Eric Jackson identifies this "B. & D." example, but I've discounted it completely as it is so different from the original stamp scanned in this thread.

Maybe by process of elimination it will help narrow down the possibilities.

Well, I just sent a big scan to Eric Jackson, and we'll see what he says. Thanks for all the research. Do you think I should order the Corvette in tangerine metal-flake or midnight blue?

Actually, the correct colors for the 2013 Corvette would be "Inferno Orange Metallic" or "Supersonic Blue Metallic" -- both $300 options. If you want to really go all out there's a "Crystal Red Tintcoat" color that's a mere $850 extra. Of course, if you can afford a Corvette ZR1 that starts at $112,600, the extra cost for the desired color is mere pocket change!

Pocket change when the boat comes in. Until then by a "Hotwheel".

Eric Jackson replied in minutes and said this particular stamp was Brown & Durling. I then inquired if he wanted to buy it, that answer is taking longer.

Now that you've confirmed the initials are that of Brown and Durling, you may be interested in this bit of history:

Quote:
Brown and Durling was formed by two half-brothers, Jacob R. Brown and James K. Durling, at Wadsworth, Ohio in 1860. In 1865 Brown bought out his partner, continuing the business for several years.

In 1866 the Initials on their revenue stamps were changed from B&D to JRB, referencing the change in ownership.

(James K. Durling (b. 9/24/1834; d. 3/12/1911) later became president of Wadsworth Bank.)

That's good to know, because it proves the B&D marking lasted barely more than a year, and thus more collectible. I think I'll stick this bad boy on ebay this week.

??? I'm reading it as 6 years (1860-1866). Of course the stamp was not introduced until October 1862 at the earliest, and who knows when the company actually started using this cancel...
