I have started receiving several spray-on cancellations depicting a new Happy Holidays slogan and image from various places in recent days. Haven't seen any info on these and was wondering if anyone new of any variations on these or all they all the same? Thanks

This was posted in a previous thread. Believe it or not, the location is Evansville, IN and the date is 03 DEC 2012:

I'd be curious if any earlier examples are out there. It is my assumption that the use of these holiday spray-on postmarks probably commenced on December 1 at select locations.

This is what USPS Facebook posted on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, although I would think it is erroneous to have suggested that "all" stamped mail would receive this postmark, as I received stamped mail just today from Harrisburg, PA, dated 03 DEC 2012 with the regular spray on killer wave postmark, NOT the Santa & Sleigh/Happy Holidays design:

I received a Christmas card from a friend in-town, but as always could not read the cancel. It sort of looks like the one above though!
A similar spray-on cancel from Birmingham, AL was very clear, but just had the killer wavy lines. The first cancel, as I mentioned was unreadable, but the Alabama cancel was December 5, 2012.

So it appears as though they are all the same. Thus far, I have seen them from St. Louis, MO; Evansville, IN; and Gary, IN

Please provide us with the dates as well as the locations. Have you seen any dated prior to 3 DEC 2012?

they never turn out good enough to make them out. Reminds me of the old dot matrix printers.

I think these spray on cancels generally don't work clearly enough to make them worthwhile. 9 out of 10 times here in the UK you just get a smudge or half a message, which is a shame.

Spray on cancels are so bad one can only wonder who's brother-in-law sells them to the P.O.?

This image has been enhanced in contrast and brightness to make the cancel more visible.

I received another one from Indianapolis, IN dated Dec 4. Looks as bad as the others.

Why do they bother with these spray on cancels if no one can identify them?

Relatively speaking, I prefer spray-on to ball point brutalization.

Any idea where that first 07 Dec 2012 spray-on cancel in the above post is from? The first one is clearly NO VA 220 (as in Northern Virginia), but the first one is not legible.

Looks to me like it is the same location, not entirely sure though
