As a complete aside: Julian Fellowes, creator of Downton Abbey, commented that it was rather a fad at the turn of the 20th century for some of the sons of British nobility to marry young women of wealth from the United States. Often the motive was to shore up the finances of the family estate, as it was for the characters in Fellowes' costume drama. I wonder if Fellowes used the character of Sydney Heap as a model for anyone in the series.
