Randall,
Even though unused no gum stamps are less expensive, they are the ones most likely to have a cleaned cancel. If the stamp is sound and is truly unused, it would be a nice fine to very fine example. The stamp looks clean enough, but a visit to a Crime Scope or VSC-6000 would be necessary to rule out any possibility of a removed cancel. However, in this case the Scott value for an unused 208a with no gum is less than a used copy.

Clark... thank you kindly for your valuable input... always taken to heed...
I have a number of items I'm planning on sending to Bill Weiss... perhaps I'll include this one with it, (should I opt to purchase it)... I'm on the fence at this moment... and, if I do, I'll have plenty of time to return it to the seller if there's a problem... the main thing I was concerned about was the perfs... it they look ok to the eyes of the pros, I'll go ahead and buy it... and, if not, I won't... that simple...
I'm still trying to figure out, though... how on earth can a cancel (which is ink) be removed without removing the ink of the stamp... it doesn't make logical sense to me, unless there's something about cancellation ink which is so different from printer's ink to make it possible without disturbing the stamp beneath the cancel... how can this be?

Update... 208a backscan... (seller added to listing)... Now I'm (really) on the fence with this one... I darkened it to bring out detail, and I (think) I'm seeing some thins as well as some patches... Opinions please? |

When do you think you'll make up your mind, just in case others might want to go for it if you don't.
Looking at the lower left on the reverse, it does look like a thin. Not sure either, but not mentioned so returnable if it is a thin I would expect. |

Well... I'm leaning towards the buy, but aside from what may appear to be thins in the lower left, please look in the lower and upper right quadrants... both areas look like patches, especially the lower...
Edit : Seller has a 30 day money back guarantee, so I'm ok with that... |

I guess I just don't understand that thinking as a collector. In my world, when in doubt I move on to the next one. It's not as if it's rare and only come around once in a blue moon. |

I'm with Stallzer.
No gum, very low res scans and reperfed all over the place.
You'd be wasting your money IMO. Siegel has sold, in the not terribly distant past, some nice OG examples for in and around $300-350 or so. You'd be better off saving up and buying a nice one. |
