Here's a link to the kind of scissors I'm talking about.

I think in some circles, they are referred to as "pinking shears"

Yes, ask anyone who sews. On all the pinking shears I've seen, the "teeth" would be too large for stamp trimming.

Also, it's very difficult to get even, aligned corners with pinking shears. Squares of paper tend to look like they have a tiny floppy ear in one corner -- and you only get one chance to trim an envelope corner.

Also, some stamps would be too close to the edge of the envelope for you to 'pink' the top and right margins.

SORRY, I don't mean to rain on the parade; I just think there will be several obstacles. If you have any luck, I'd love to see scans.

Hi Folks....

My solution is to collect covers.........no cut perfs, no ruined stamps from failed soaking attempts and if someone ever finds a way to remove them successfully I'll still have a nice pile to work with.

In answering the question, how do you collect self-adhesives?, I could say, 'very carefully'.

Seriously though, I have noticed the trend of keeping these on piece gaining in popularity.

I once also tried to soak some of those pink and white US labels (can't think of the name of them), in trying to get as many denominations as possible, and ran into some problems with them as well. Now, I collect them on piece whenever they come in the mail to me.I don't seek them out but will keep those that come my way.

Sign of the times I guess

On the 3 pound Machin, is the security feature the vertical oval over the denomination? I am assuming that that is a cut-out that separates from the stamp if it is removed from the envelope (or package).

Yes Humpy.

You can see the ovals in this scan:
