Have a stamp I've had since I was a kid (in my mid-40's now) I think it might be Russian, but have never figured it out. White with dark blue print, the edges are smooth not perforated. It has a 5 pointed star with a with a circle & hammer & sickle inside. Right & left side borders of stamp have 2 cranes/herons facing each other. Has 2 letters over the star, left one looks like a capital U, right letter looks like a cursive small "r". At the bottom are numerals 250.0. Any ideas? I tried to figure it out when I was younger, & decided to try again.

Welcome jmas01.

I didn't know but took Londonbus1's suggestion for Armenia and looked on ebay. This item has a stamp in the center of the group with the same design as yours, just coloured blue and perforated.

Even better, Armenia Scott Catalogue #285 on ebay:
In their description they say it is from the Armenian Transcaucasian Federated Republic, issued 1921, printed in St. Peterburg, Russia.

Scott says that, except for the 25, they weren't regularly issued and used.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Yep! The Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic after the communist took control.
Then joining the Transcaucasian Federated Republics, with Georgia & Azerbaijan, finally being absorbed by the Soviet Union.

Interesting comments from all the Sherlocks her at SCF !!

The reason it is not listed in my Gibbons is because they were unissued.

This is what SG has to say:

".....not issued without surcharge. The unsurcharged sets found on the market are from part of the original printing left as payment to the printers, or from unauthorised reprints. All denominations have also been forged"

In other words, it could be genuine but unissued, a reprint or a fake! No idea how you tell.......
