Thanks everyone for the replies here. Some great stories [and love stories !] and perspectives on the subject.

I have been lucky enough to have met 4 fellow collectors that I met 'on the net'.

Golovacz, whom some of you know from here and elsewhere, I 'met' at Stampoffers. For over 4 years now we have been sharing stamp stuff and drinking a beer once a week. We even managed to get to two Stamp shows together.

From my GB group I have met the owner/moderator and one other of the members. Stayed with the owner on one longer visit and had some great GB stamp discussions.
I will be staying with another member of that group for three nights in London this coming May. We went to Stampex together last autumn and will go the big show this time.
I have also met a Flags collector who has his own Yahoo Flags group and his own Flagsonstamps website. We met at a NPS meeting in London in 2008.

I hope to meet a few more this upcoming visit, but so far, most plans are not finalized.
We shall see.

I have not met in person any of all you wonderful friends here on SCF. I am much richer as a result

Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay! This doesn't sound right! I didn't mean it this way, really I didn't. I'm so embarrassed.

Hi folks.....

I have not met anyone that I've conversed with on line except for Connie.....if you're reading this, make yourself known, you are missed. I honestly feel that I have made real friends here. Right from the day I joined I have felt welcomed.......even when we disagree, which is not that often.

Great post Londonbus! I'm a little bit late but I'd like to say your post is very relevant in this modern time of cell phones and 3Gs and internet

There was a time when - if a business project had to be closed - it was a "sit-down-dinner-coffee-drinks" face-to-face situation w/a sec on the side to take notes.

Today it's a cellphone "tele-conference" with 3G face images on a 48" large plasma screen, and literally speaking.. you talk to the screen and the images smile and converse with you, half a world away.

One just has to remember and never forget, that that's a real person on the other end of that signal, smilin at you!

tommorrow and the future will be just like star-trek!

I have met heaps of wonderful people in the stamp and coin forums and have traded with many of them. I have never built up a real close relationship with any of them though.

Well, thats what I thought up till today. I have just lost a dear friend in the CCF coin forum and I don't mind admitting I cried like a baby.

R.I.P. Gary Burke.

Steve

sad to hear about that triggersmob.. always heavy, the burden of losing a friend, just had one, left last week, for permanent reassignment up there... heavy for me too.

what was the avatar name of Gary Burke?

Also reminds us that once our avatars journey to that great castle in the sky... who would know in the SCF? Our passwords are locked up inside us and I was told there's no on-line connection up there...

that gave me some pause for thought.... anyway ...back to stamps!

Nic, sorry to hear about your loss too.
On CCF Gary just used his own name.
On other sites, he was known as Coincrusader42.
