Makes you wonder why someone would do this to stamps? The original criminal can't seriously have hoped to sell them as unlisted manuscript OS overprints. There are people out there who make collectors of the Indian States look sane & sensible by comparison.

Hahahaha, good one Tony

The person must have had more than a fleeting knowledge
of philately, to know to even mark them thus.
Still in the context of things, we have more worrying people
running large countries.

I have thought about this since finding out they were not real. Since there were a few real South Australia O.S. overprints with them, I'm wondering if it wasn't done by someone to fill spaces in their album/collection.

They are beautiful stamp examples,
Bravo to you for saving them

Thank you.

As I had said, I didn't want them as they were so it seemed there wasn't much to lose in trying to remove the markings. Fortunately, the ink was water soluble and the bleach helped the process along.

I suppose so. But it's a bit like cheating at Solitaire/Patience, isn't it? What's the point?

There are still a few nagging gaps in my Barwani collection, but I'd rather have them nag than fill them with spurious creations like this.

Oh well: just another sign of advancing old age
