Need Info On US Designers And Engravers 1917 To 1995

I am brand new to this forum and joined because I am getting back into collecting after a 40-year break. I dug out my old Minkus All American album from 1968 and as I leafed through it I decided that I would like to collect on a topical basis -- US stamps (1917 to 1995) with a military theme.

Using the design from the All American pages, I have constructed a digital template for the pages for my theme album. I would like to include a very brief paragraph of information on each stamp; kind of like the info on the old lobby cards from the 1960s-1970s. As part of the information on each stamp in the display I would like to identify the designer and engravers of the stamp.

However, I have been unable to locate any information on the internet for the designer and engravers of specific US stamps. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

USStamps.org as a noted in your previous posting.Additionally, earlier information can be found in the four volume work by Johl which I believe can be downloaded from Stamp Smarter and the Robert A. Siegel web sites.

51studebaker, thanks for the links. I am awaiting approval from USStamps to join. They want two references, which I do not have, but hopefully I will get approved anyway.

So far, thanks to this forum, I have had good luck identifying the engravers of specific stamps. However, it seems that I have hit a brick wall regarding US stamps issued after about mid-1970.

Were US stamps not hand-engraved after that time? Or, did another function, such as illustrator or typographer replace the title of engraver?
