Any sugestions? I find an meppe something in Germany, but nothing in Belgium.
Have a good one, and I hope to hear from y'all soon. If an image is necessary, please ask, and I'll crank one up. There's not much to glean from the stamp itself.

Pictures ALWAYS help to understand the question, especially since I, personally, have no idea what "e Meppe" means. Please post a picture when you have time. |

It could be Jemeppe-sur-Sambre or Jemeppe-sur-Meuse, or just Jemeppe (Marche-en-Famenne). |

Hi tohill2
The reason people would like to see an image, is because it will show the type of postmark you have, which may allow some of the possibilities mentioned above to be eliminated. Also, because the name of the town is usually symmetrically arranged around the top, seeing part of it will help people estimate how many letters might be missing.
Please post the image when you can.

In the case of Belgium, it might be a railway stamp. In general, towns changed their names. So some idea about the timeframe would also be helpful. Perf12's remark is understandable: Quote: I find an meppe something in Germany, but nothing in Belgium. A remark like "meppe something" makes a European shiver. There is a German town Meppen and a Dutch town Meppel. But clearly, there are at least three "meppe something" in Belgium. Also "e Meppe" looks strange, as it is very common for cancellations to use uppercase letters. Germany does have lowercase letters in some cancellations. |

I'm glad the other members figured out this was a question about a Postmark/Cancellation. I had no idea from the original question, and the lack of any pictures/scans. |

I suspect Meppel in the Netherlands, but with no picture it's hard to tell. |

Possible. But that would show up at the top of a search for "Meppe," and Quote: I find an meppe something in Germany, but nothing in Belgium. does suggest OP is looking for something in Belgium. Since OP refers to a stamp, there might be a good chance OP was looking at a Belgian stamp to discard the German hit. Unfortunately, OP did not find it necessary to post the stamp and text OP was referring to and has not returned since. |

Quote: Unfortunately, OP did not find it necessary to post the stamp and text OP was referring to and has not returned since. I agree, a picture would have been hugely helpful and clarified the question. However after perf12's post, I am not surprised that a relative newcomer would go elsewhere and seek a more polite, welcoming, and encouraing response. |
