eBay: It has started appearing on most sales. Is this a preference buyers can choose? What does it really mean?

I don't understand why ebay is committed to deterring sellers from selling and buyers from buying, by making everything ridiculously complicated.

As an ebay buyer, I no sooner get used to the current quirks of the ebay system than they replace them with a whole new set of quirks.

Boooooo!

Back when I worked for a living, one of my bosses had the following favorite observation:

"The sole role of middle management is to create a situation of chaos within the organization, at which time he could then solve it, and thus draw attention to himself to his upper management as an important part of the organization."

Applied to the current situation...

"The sole role of the software developer is to create change so as to justify his existence. If things remained static and worked, his services would no longer be needed."

Ok, I get the explanation. We complained about no longer being able to combine shipping on auctions so they gave the buyer the option of not paying right away. It might have been better to give the seller a tool to combine sales and refund extra shipping costs. The problem with this seems to be that it slows everything down. But I guess it's not terrible.

This may be getting a little off topic of stamps but - ebay was so enjoyable in 1996, then known as auctionweb. It worked with only two people, Omar and an assistant- and now it has hundreds that make it so complex and difficult. And if you ran into problems, you actually could communicate with one of them. Buy a stamp, sell a stamp, get paid in cash, money order, travellers cheque. It worked well until it became a corporation.
And mml1942 is correct, chaos rules the world; and we all know someone like that.

Corrected mispelling. Know - now

The flip side is that there should ultimately be a reduction in non-paying bidders (I don't get a lot of those, but it does happen).

It would be nice if it were easier to get shipping combined for buyers. I have to do a lot of refunds to adjust shipping.

Non-paying buyers are a tiny fraction of my sales.

Not new and improved, just new.

I ask for an invoice when I buy multiples from the same seller. There is an option on the purchases page: ask seller for invoice.

I was reasonably happy with Windows 97. With Office 97 it did what I needed.
All they needed to do was up the security to keep ahead of the bad guys.
