Just got an email from PSAG:

Quote:
Dear Esteemed Experts of PSAG,

It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of John Randall Shoemaker, who left us peacefully on October 11th, 2025, at 8:42 pm. Randy, as he was affectionately known to many, was not only the heart of PSAG Inc. but also a passionate advocate for philately and a cherished friend to so many in our community.

Randy's dedication to the world of stamp collecting was unparalleled. Through PSAG Inc., he built a legacy of expertise, integrity, and enthusiasm that elevated the field of philately. His commitment to preserving the history and artistry of stamps was matched only by the deep friendships he formed with each of you. He often spoke with gratitude and pride about the years of collaboration, the shared passion for the hobby, and the countless experiences that defined his time working alongside such a talented and dedicated team.

Beyond his professional achievements, Randy found joy in life's simple pleasures—casting a line while fly fishing on the Au Sable River, celebrating a strike at the bowling alley, taking the team home at a softball game, or enjoying a round of golf with friends. These moments, much like his work with you, were filled with laughter, connection, and a zest for life that he shared generously.

On behalf of Randy, his wife Mary, his children Shannon Whittingham and William Blaine Nicklaus, and his cherished grandchildren Madilyn, William, Emma, Harrison, and Ellie, I want to express our deepest appreciation for the years of camaraderie, expertise, and friendship you shared with him. Your collaboration meant the world to Randy, and the bonds you formed will remain a vital part of his enduring legacy.

We are hosting a Celebration of Life for Randy at The Ventry Club House at 1 Clubhouse Road, Newtown Square, PA 19073, from 12-3 PM on October 19th. We invite anyone who would like to attend to join us in remembering Randy's warmth, passion, and the remarkable impact he had on our community.

With gratitude and fond memories,

Amy Nicklaus

This is a sad announcement. I only met Mr. Shoemaker once. I approached him out of the blue during a show c. 2010-2011. He was friendly, thoughtful and willing to take the time to answer a slew of questions. Quite the professional and the gentleman. A sad loss, indeed.
