*** Moved by Staff to a more appropriate forum. ***Found this on the internet. There are more details on line. Denmark's state-run postal service, PostNord, is to end all letter deliveries at the end of 2025, citing a 90% decline in letter volumes since the start of the century. The decision brings to an end 400 years of the company's letter service. Denmark's 1,500 post boxes will start to disappear from the start of June. Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen sought to reassure Danes, saying letters would still be sent and received as "there is a free market for both letters and parcels". Postal services across Europe are grappling with the decline in letter volumes. Germany's Deutsche Post said on Thursday it was axing 8,000 jobs, in what it called a "socially responsible manner". https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ckg8jllq283o

It's all about privatizing the post. They want people to behave like trained dogs...no cash... |

He is suggesting people could use private services to send letters (at a very high cost). |

If we are being honest the cost to mail a letter now may appear low but how much do the Danes pay to keep their postal service open? How much do they lose? What do all of the employees do if there is 90% less mail? |

Sad news. The Danes still issued a lot of beautiful engraved stamps. Iceland ceased issuing stamps a couple of years ago. Looks like the Scandinavian area of philately is shrinking pretty quickly. The great engravers of my time, Slania (deceased) and Martin Morck (still active) did most of their work for the Nordic countries. As I said above, sad news. |

Does this mean Denmark will stop issuing postage stamps? What then is going to happen to all the mint Danish stamps that are floating around in the hands of the common folks and stamp collectors? |

The BBC article says "any postage stamps bought this year or in 2024 can be refunded for a limited period in 2026." Time to stock up on discount Denmark postage. |

As I understand it, Denmark will still issue international rate stamps.
From Nordfrim:
Fortunately, we can still look forward to two new international rate stamp issues later this year (expected to be two souvenir sheets per issue) – one in May and one in September. Keep an eye on our newsletters, where we will announce these issues. You can also subscribe to Danish issues, and we will automatically deliver the latest stamps to you – always at face value/postage price. |

I just recently came across the BBC article.
As someone in the United States, will I be able to post a letter from the USPS to Denmark or will I be forced to use something like DHL, UPS, or FedEx? |

Quote: so 2023 and earlier is demonitized? No, not demonetized; they will maintain their face value but there will no place to use them except on international mail as long as that continues. Quote: As someone in the United States,... will I be forced to use something like DHL, UPS, or FedEx? Only if you want it delivered within Norway as a hard copy. |
