A strip of stamps means one stamp attached to another stamp attached to another stamp - all in a row. A strip of stamps. Like when you have 5 of the same stamp but all attached to each other in a straight line. The strip isn't a single stamp, it isn't a block, it isn't a double. It's a strip of the same stamp like an entire row of the same stamp from a sheet. I don't think that anyone collects or displays them like that (in a strip). I'm just wondering what people do with them. I've been throwing them all in a box labeled "strips".
It depends on what the stamp is. Some stamps are collected in strips (for example, US transpostation coils with plate numbers). If they are very old stamps (say US 19th century) by all means do not separate. If they are modern stamps without any extra features (plate numbers, marginal inscriptions, face-different designs, etc), then it's OK to separate.
