June 16, 2026 MANILA No. 1 JUN 16 2 PM 1939 PHILIPPINES Seen here is an oxidized copy of the 1933 twelve-centavos airmail stamp. It should appear orange in color but oxidization has turned it brown. The illustration under the overprinted outline of an aeroplane, is of Pier 7 at Manila Bay. The Stamp World online catalogue (SW.C) has assigned their number 357 to this stamp. The reason for overprinting this issue was because of a sudden surge in the demand for airmail service and these overprints would help in the sorting of mail. |

Thank you for this post explaining that this is an overprinted stamp. I asked about the stamp in the Cover Calander thread. |

June 17, 2026 COLOMBO A 17 JU 53 REGISTERED The stamp is Ceylon number 253 (SW.C) and was issued in 1938. It is a 25-cent stamp and features an engraved imagine of the Temple of the Tooth. Temple of the Tooth (also known as the Sri Dalada Maligawa) is located in Kandy, Sri Lanka. The Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, Sri Lanka, is famous because it houses the left canine tooth of Siddhartha Gautama (the Buddha). It is one of the most venerated pilgrimage sites in the Buddhist world and symbolizes immense political and spiritual authority. The red marker shows Kandy's location on the island nation of Sri Lanka. Southern India is the other land mass shown to the upper left of Sri Lanka. |

JUNE 18 PAQUEBOT POSTED AT SEA RECEIVED 18 06 29 SAINT JOHN N.B.. The Image Sleuth reveal: The Leeward Island 1 ½ d. key plate stamps was issued between 1921 and 1926. The online catalogue (SW.C) lists it as number 62 (Leeward Is.) I located this postmark on the cover shown below: So, to understand this cover, it was posted on a vessel that frequents the Islands somewhere on the high seas between any one of the Leeward Islands and Saint John, N.B. However, the person mailing it did not receive a receipt for registration when it was placed in the Canadian mails to be forwarded to Scotland. But that was a different time, and possibly the traveller was a regular on this route doing business and entrusted the letter to the purser on board, to receive it on his next return visit. Alternately, maybe a collector took a chance by dropping it with the blue pencil cross on it in the hopes the postal staff would do the logical thing wherever the mail was off loaded. |

June 19 GEORGE TOWN JU 19 13 GRAND CAYMAN To assist with what you may be seeing I am including an ImageSleuth capture. Removing some color from the stamp presents the clearest picture in my opinion in this instance. Of course, it is most helpful when you know some of the postmarks that exist. This one shilling stamp of Cayman Islands was issued sometime between 1907 and 1909. Stamp World has assigned it number 27 in their online catalogue. |

June 21 ALEXANDRIE 21 JUIN 01 EGYPTE 1899 -1900 French Postage Stamps Overprinted "ALEXANDRIE" - Colored Paper: This was the first set of stamps issued exclusively for the French Post Office in Alexandria, Egypt. The 40-centime value is #11 in the StampWorld online catalogue. The French operated post offices in Egypt from 1830 through 1931. All closed in 1931 as Egypt had modernized their postal service and elected not to have foreign post offices operating on their soil. This provisional issue from El Salvador was issued in 1924 and was created by overprinting StampWorld #451, featuring Christopher Columbus marking the 100th. Anniversary of the country in 1921. The stamp shown is unlisted in SW.C but is listed as SG # 744. PORT ANTONIO JUN 21 00 JAMAICA Llandovery Falls was featured in 1900 on stamp #31 (SW.C) of Jamaica. |

June 22 LATACUNGA *JUN 22 1932* Ln. 91 L. Ecuador number 303 (StampWorld), celebrated the centenary of the republic in 1930. The ten-centavos stamp illustrates the importance of fruit exports and shows a steamer used to take them to their destinations. BAILEY'S BAY A JU 22 1901 BERMUDA The two and half-penny image of Queen VIctoria was first issued in 1883. It is number 22 in the StampWorld online catalogue. Although the date in 1964 is easy to make out, I have not been able to decipher the post office name. The eight-cent stamp, number 207 (SW.C), is from the first set of Queen Elizabeth definitives for the colony. |
