When I first saw this category topic, it reminded me of an article from decades ago in a BIA (Bureau Issues Association) United States Specialist issue. Although the stamp was intended to be representative of U.S. Army troops marching through Paris, the engraving on the stamp (from an original photograph) resulted in recognizable living persons. (Note: Text below and images from The Swedish Tiger website). 3¢ Olive, Rotary Press Printing - Perf. 11 x 10½, 128 million printed - Scott #934 - 1945 US soldiers march through the Arc de Triomphe in Paris after liberating the city. The original photograph. In the final design planes were added to recognize the contribution of the US Army Air Corps. The identity of the soldiers (this sent to The Swedish Tiger by a viewer and participant in the march). |

Thank you Walkman82. I enjoyed seeing these, especially all together. One doesn't see too many living people on U.S. stamps. This took place a bit before my time, but I can imagine my late Grandfather in there somewhere. |

Wintertime, thanks for the thanks! My grandfathers may have been there too if they weren't both on aircraft carriers in the Pacific. |

You may be right. My Grandfather didn't talk much about the war. That time and way of life is something I cannot even imagine, but the picture and the stamp give me hope that there were at least moments of joy. They made me happy to think about my Grandpa. |
