This U.S. stamp had just been issued by a couple weeks in Feb. 1990 when I shamed a postal clerk to sell me a booklet. I was in St. Petersburg Beach, Fla. Wanted to send postcards and knew the stamps were available. Went to post office and clerk said he didn't have any. Turned to go out the door when I saw the stamps under another glass counter.
Two clerks were sitting behind the counter shooting the breeze. I politely interrupted and asked to buy the stamps. One said he was "closed." I countered with, "well, clearly you have them. I cannot think of any other business that would refuse to sell something to a paying customer."
With a sarcastic comment, he reluctantly got up and sold me the stamps.
