United States Imperf Ten Cent 1855

I very seldom encounter early U.S. stamps in the lots I tend to purchase and, when I do, I have to rely on the descriptions given in the Scott Standard. Those are reasonably good but in most cases lead to a fairly tentative identification.

I recently ran across the stamp illustrated below and because of the non-existent margin at the top my identification is really tenuous. For now, I am assuming it is Scott #15, Type III, but I would really appreciate a second opinion from someone who is more experienced than I am. The thing that is giving me some pause are the pearls engraved in the lower left (3? 2? 2 and a sloppy one).

The lines at the top appear complete, so type II, Scott #14. A better scan would confirm it. The lines on top have to be actually broken to be a type III.

Thank you for that bit of advice. I did not think there was enough showing in the top section of the design to give much of a read on that.

That is an A relief, which mostly makes it a Ty II unless recut, which it isn't. #14

Related - I haven't done a deep study to determine if any A reliefs have been found with the top sufficiently worn to call them a Ty III. I'm not aware of any, but they might exist.
