In the early 1900's my hometown of Woodstock, Illinois, produced about half of the world's typewriters, largely under the "Oliver" and "Woodstock" brand names. It was common to see these in attics, basements, barns and sheds when I was a kid. Every now and then I'd see one at a friend's or relative's home proudly displayed (my mother has a Woodstock). I've even examples of these in movies, too! |
