We don't get a lot of mail now. The junk shows up but checks go missing, bank statements and insurance documents go missing. I no longer trust the USPS. My wife just mailed a vintage Corning Ware bowl tha5 was packed to survive a nuclear blast. The USPS demolished it. That took real tenacity to accomplish. The USPS needs to fade away. |

Quote: checks go missing, bank statements and insurance documents go missing. I am feeling nostalgic now. We do not have those anymore. All are digital. |

And the first class mail that does make it can take two weeks to get from Boston to Western MA, a distance of less than one hundred miles.
Where did it all go wrong for the USPS. |

The average American reads at a fifth grade level. The USPS is full of average Americans. Going wrong is almost always the culmination of decades of effort, and that's certainly true here. At least postage is still cheaper than it was in 1847. |

I had a friend who lived in a large American city (you know the city that's so nice they named it twice ;>) and kept getting other peoples' mail at his place of business. So one day he stopped the mail carrier and quickly found out that she couldn't speak English very well nor knew how to read it. |

Sounds apocryphal. I have lived in that city that's so nice they named it twice for my whole life and never met any mail carrier who could not read. Mail does occasionally get mixed up here; there is a lot of mail to deliver. Not like those little mountain towns with ten people to the square mile. |
