Hi Puzzler
Did you know that the dragon heads were often just ceremonial, and were removable. Most times they were on funeral ships that carried the dead to valhalla. Regards Horamakhet |

Thanks for this topic!
I have a topical collection of stamps depicting runes and runestones, but I didn't know about the Monaco issue with the Kingittorsuaq stone until I saw nethryk's post. |

Mother of the sea and mistress of the wind Mother of the sea and mistress of the wind, issued by Greenland on March 29, 2006 as part of the omnibus series "Top of the World" about Norse Mythologies: Sedna is the goddess of the sea and marine animals in Inuit mythology, also known as the Mother of the Sea or Mistress of the Sea. The story of Sedna, which is a creation myth, describes how she came to rule over Adlivun, the Inuit underworld. In Inuit mythology, Asiaq is a weather goddess (or, more rarely a god, as probably depicted on the stamp) and was quite frequently invoked by the angakoq for good weather, for instance if spring was late it was important to content her and make sure she would send rain and melt the ice. In Greenland, she is the mother of weather, who decides the quantity and the time for snow to fall. |
